Or in plain English: What information we store, how do we do it and for what purpose. TL;DR; the data track you leave on Our is very limited and transparent - what you leave, we treat with respect and we only use it for relevant purposes.

The full version:

What information do we collect?

When wanting to participate on Our Umbraco, you are asked to sign-in or register. By not being able to be anonymous, this helps keep the discussions, contributions, conversations etc. on Our relevant, respectable and friendly.

In the sign-in/register process we ask for your name, email and collect your IP address.

In this process we also give you the option to share your location, Twitter alias or GitHub username. This makes sense in regard to certain types of interactions on Our - and especially if you want to grow your Twitter list with awesome Umbracians - but providing this information is not mandatory.

You are of course able to visit and use the information on Our without signing in/registering.

We collect information from you when you register on our site and gather data when you participate in the forum by reading, writing, and evaluating the content shared here.

Your e-mail address will be verified by an email containing a unique link. If that link is visited, we know that you control the e-mail address.

When registered and posting, we record the IP address that the post originated from. We also may retain server logs which include the IP address of every request to our server.

What do we use your information for?

We require your email and ask you for verification in order to avoid spam accounts. It only makes sense for us all to have real people, with real passions and needs on Our.

By registering with your email you’re also sure to get an email sent to you with information about new posts or comments from the Forum. This saves you from staring at the screen, waiting for an answer from someone who might have gone round to visit their nana.

You will also receive emails from us if there’s any Our or Umbraco related information we need to inform our users about.

Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways:

To personalize your experience — your information helps us to better respond to your individual needs.
To improve our site — we continually strive to improve our site offerings based on the information and feedback we receive from you.
To improve customer service — your information helps us to more effectively respond to your customer service requests and support needs.

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive/credit information you supply is encrypted via Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology.
