What do you want to see in vNext for CWS?

I am planning to start working on CWS again after a very very long period away from the project.
I have a few things in mind that I want to do for CWS which are as follows:

    • Update the very dated markup & CSS (Thank god I don't have to use sIFR anymore)
    • New design? (Perhaps a new major version, deserves a new design)
    • Build this on V5 and blog about my journey building CWS on V5
Is there anything specific that you want to see included in the next major version of CWS, that's not included in the current dated version?
    Cheers,
    Warren :)

    Hi Warren

Sounds like a good idea :)

Since "Responsive" is the new black...maybe that would be nice to think about during the process?

Hey Jan, Yep responsive is definately on my list of things to do, along with ditching sIFR for Web fonts and general all round tidy up of the markup and CSS.

How about using v2 http://html5boilerplate.com/ as a base? Or maybe creating a m.CWS starter kit for mobile sites around http://html5boilerplate.com/mobile and jQuery.Mobile.

I'm also thinking if it would make any sense to make use of geo-location for the event list? I'm thinking that then event nearby could be listed first or get highlighted in another way than events more far away? And maybe a dash of microdata/microformats on this list as well? And maybe a google map or bing map, showing the event locations?

And perhaps there could also somehow be a use-case for local storage? On the contact form for instance so the e-mail on the contact form could be remembered from time to time?

I'll keep the ideas coming as they get to my mind :-)

    /Jan

I've also got some ideas :)

    • Since you worked on uTube and HTML 5 Video it would be nice to add a video gallery next to the photo gallery. To make it even more awesome the video's in this gallery could be YouTube or Vimeo video's which are in the media section with a custom hive provider. Would make a really great example.
    • I know code-first is a 5.1 feature, but it would also be really great if you could build a version of CWS which uses this. Alex told me it will be possible to use these code-first classes in Razor to create strongly-typed linq queryies (something like LinqToUmbraco in v4 but a lot faster) and I would really like to see that. I think they're already trying this for v4 too: http://our.umbraco.org/projects/developer-tools/usitebuilder/usitebuilder-support/25697-uSiteBuilder-and-strongly-typed-views-with-razor.
Hope I'm not too demanding ;-).

    Hi Jeroen,
I think introducing Video into CWS is a good idea and something I was thinking of doing as well.
In regards to the Code-First apporach I need to read up on it first and learn from the V5 guys before I look into this, but may be out of the easy to use & get started methodology behind CWS when I created it.

Hi there, you could also include a pic galery which gets the pictures from picasa.

And another interesting feature would be having a slideshow at homepage (also getting both pictures and description from picasa).

    regards,

    raphael
