Export v6 and import into v7?

    Hi,

Looks like this could be a mega handy tool! :)

Is it possible to export from a store in v6 and import into a v7 store?

Also whatever version... do the 2 stores have to be the same version? What happens if there are things extra/missing in the import files?

    Cheers Damian

    Hi Damian!

Thanks... I hope it can be of use, I've had good use of it myself so far.

What a cool question. Of course I had to try it :) and the short answer is ... probably.

Your best chance of success would be to upgrade your Umbraco 6 installation to the latest uCommerce version (6.0.0.14094), because that's the same version that runs on Umbraco 7. I just tried it out, exported a brand new Umbraco 6.1.6 installation with the Avenue Clothing razor demo store (3.0.1.14013) and imported it on an Umbraco 7 installation... and it worked like a charm.

The older your uCommerce version, the tricker it's bound to get. In general, uCommerce Sync is very forgiving in terms of missing/extra data, as long as you use the same (latest) version of uCommerce Sync (0.6.0.2) on both the source and target installations. You'll get a nice fat warning text (apparently with a missing word too, shame on me) if you attempt importing data from a different version of uCommerce, but it's always worth a try. Just for the fun of it, I tried exporting a more complex setup from a 6.1.5 installation running uCommerce 5.2.3.14050 and imported that into another blank Umbraco 7 installation, and that also worked just fine, so now I have a bunch of test data on my Umbraco 7 site - why didn't I think of that sooner? :)

All in all it's definitively worth a try. Just make sure you're using uCommerce Sync 0.6.0.2 on both the source and target installations.

    Enjoy!

Does the target have to be empty or does it do a compare?

I had thought about writing something similar myself but just never had the time or gotten round to it. I wanted to be able to export so i could pull the data into say excel, modify pricing etc en mass and then import back in again (and handy for the admin as they are more familiar with excel than UC). If it can do that then it would be mega handy for situations when pricing needs to go up by say 5% across the board.

Im tied up on something else at the moment but will give it a right good bash when i jump back into a UC project I'll be working on again shortly.

Thanks for getting back to me. :)

    Hey,

Nono, the target does not have to be empty. uCommerce Sync is meant for continuous deployment scenarios from dev/test environments to production environments. It'll make informed decisions on all existing data and update/create/delete as needed. That's the theory, anyway :)

Let me know how it works for you.
