Perhaps you can solve your objective with child (doc type) items on the content node (of certain doc type), and render them each to their own cell in the template?
Not sure if the 'flexible in nature' grid can restrict to having only 1 item in a grid cell, but I could be wrong of course.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to limit the number of items in a cell on the Umbraco Grid.
I only want users to add a single content block to a given cell inside a row.
