    Perplexed installing 4.1

    Hello,

    I'm a developer installng 4.1 on an internal 2003 server. I've got SQL2005, IIS6 and asp.net 3.5.

I've unpacked the distribution to inetpub/wwwroot/testDir. At this point, everything seems to work fine. The wizard runs, the database is set up and Runway installs just fine.

When I point a browser at http://srv/testDir, the Runway page opens as expected.

So what's the problem? There is no navigation bar, the sitemap link points at http://srv/sitemap.aspx (instead of http://srv/testDir/siteMap.aspx) and the Runway link at the top of the page points at http://srv instead of to http://srv/testDir.

In short, the site expects things to be up one directory level from where they are.

I obviously have some fundamental missunderstanding. Please set me straight.

    Thanks.

    Jon

Are you trying to run it as a virtual directory or are you trying to run it at the website root?

Probably as a virtual directory. The name of the server is 'srv', so the links in the Runway page seem to be pointed at the root direcory. What I want is to have everything pointed at http://srv/testDir, since I have other sites I am developing on the same server.

The Runway page comes up as desired/expected, but all of its links point to the server root directory.

Then yes, you're trying to run it as a virtual directory.

Have you configured it as a virtual directory in IIS?

I don't use Runway, it may have hard-coded navigation in it though, so you should check out the templates.

It might help if you set the hostname to http://srv/testDir

In the content area, make a node under which all of the pages in the site will go (runway might already have that set-up, I can't remember). Right-click that node and choose "Manage hostnames".

Thanks for the suggestions, but none work so far. All I'm doing is a default install in a virtual directory.

The default 'Runway' link points to '/' instead of to '/testDir'. The reason I'm trying the 4.1 beta is that it's supposed to work in a virtual directory. I'm sure it does and I'm just missing something fundamental and simple.

Jon, did you ever figure this out? I installed 4.1.x beta for the same reason, have run into the same problem, and so far, haven't been able to find any solution either.

As you said, for me, there simply is not Runway top navigation showing. The pages are shown in the admin, but no top nav. Not tried sitemap yet, but I'm assuming it's going to behave as you outlined.

It sorta looks like Umbraco itself is now working in virtual directories, but Runway isn't. I hope there's some sort of workaround short of skipping Runway and trying to figure more of this out on my own.
