Does anyone have a hosting provider they really recommend for running multiple small-medium size Umbraco sites? I'm looking for a reseller/business package - don't have a need for a dedicated atm.
My past experience with Umbraco has always been on hosted, physical servers. This last month, I am now experimenting with getting a new v7 site hosted on Azure.
My experience so far on a site with about 20 nodes is that the "Shared" website you can get on Azure for about US$10/month is not sufficient to run the site, because the memory consumption goes past 500MB, which is the max and then your site just shuts down on you. (Note, this was on 7.1.6 which has a memory leak, and so I've upgraded it to 7.1.8, which does cut down on this consumption a bit, but it still hovers around this mark so is a danger to not address it.)
So, I found I needed to upscale this very simple new site of mine to a "Basic" website which is about US$50/month, a significant jump in price. But you get 1.75GB of memory which I hope will be sufficient plus a few other new features open up to you that don't matter much to me. Oh and plus you'll want the Azure SQL Database to go with this which is about another US$5/month?
My overall impression of Azure so far is that this is not a good deal for the money you spend. I will be continuing to look for other alternatives to Azure. Thank you for this thread. I just wanted to put in my US$0.02, so to say.

I've used eHosting in the UK for a few sites, and they've been good. I've also used Newtek in the states, who are also quite decent.

i use softsys hosting. Never had a problem with them, or with an umbraco install
I would go with Azure personally. It's cheap and extremely flexible. Umbraco runs well and can be installed directly from Azure's Management Console.
