Large image place holder during loading of external images

    Hi,

Not sure why this is happening, and I haven't seen it before. I am working on an old page that displays a table of products, and uses ImageGen to resize the thumbnail.

This works as usual for any locally hosted images, but some are on an external CDN provided by another company. When loading these external images a large placeholder is put in place whilst the page is loading.

This is causing the table cell that the image is placed within to expand to accommodate the image.

Is this a known issue? I've looked at the styling of the table and nothing is jumping out to me. I've also looked at the original image, and the place holder being loaded is much larger than the original image.

I think "broken image icon" maybe describes better what we are seeing in the browser. I've put a clipping of the place holder that loads below. Once the image has fully loaded, the table looks correct.

I haven't constrained the image itself, because the thumbnails that ImageGen bring back are different heights so the proportions can be constrained.

    Any ideas?

Broken Image Placeholder that is showing

    Hi, Daniel,

Nothing comes to mind immediately to explain this behaviour. Any chance there's a URL I could see this happen? (if you'd rather not publisize the url here, feel free to contact me through my website at http://www.percipientstudios.com/about/contact.aspx and maybe I can see what's going on.

    cheers,
    doug.
