Installer file damaged - Air install failure

    Hey folks,

A client of ours is still using the Desktop Media Installer (in Umbraco v4.8.1)! Who knew?!

They are trying to install the .air file on another Windows workstation and getting the same Adobe Air Application Install error I get if I try myself (on Win7, 64-bit).

"Sorry an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author."

    • I've just installed Abobe AIR, so I have the latest version.

    • I've downloaded the "desktopmediauploader.air" from the Umbraco back office and got this error.

    • Also downloaded all the package .zips from here and extracted the .air file from each. All display the same error.

Is this an Adobe Air issue?

Will appreciate any ideas you have.

    Thanks, Anthony

We have the same for a client... We were in the process to make him a quote for a new website, but this kind of interrupts this all since he can now not upload the mass of images... uh oh...

Its something to do with the time stamp in the air file. The installation fails because the time stamp has been exceeded. One work around is to set your PC clock back in time, then install, and then reset your clock back to todays date once finished.

Hi, I have heard from several web resources, some related to Umbraco 4, regarding the Desktop Media Uploader utility installer not working, and showing ‘installer file is damaged’ errors as well as comments about ‘cannot install on 64-bit machines’, ‘will not run on Windows 10’ etc. I also initially had a problem installing the Desktop Media Uploader but now, after a bit of experimenting, have it running perfectly on a 64-bit Windows 10 PC.

So, although I am not a regular Umbraco user, I thought I would post details of what I did. Firstly, I downloaded an old Adobe Air package from the Adobe site (v2.04) and installed it. Secondly, I downloaded the Desktop Media Uploader installation file but, before double-clicking it I set my PC’s date back to 2012. After that the installation worked perfectly. So I then reset the PC's date back to normal and that was the problem solved - the uploader is running fine on the 64-bit Windows 10 machine.

Not sure, whether the use of older Adobe Air version was really needed or not, but I thought I’d just provide the full details of the steps I took just in case it helps somebody else.
