I've seen a few threads about this but nothing specific to my problem. After upgrading and fixing the root node in the tables, I was stuck pulling my hair out to this error. Nothing loaded except the the content tree. After upgrading the UmbracoForms which also upgraded Umbraco to 7.9.0 it still didn't work.

I tried uninstalling any other plugins and playing with the tree.config and dashboard.config.

Eventually I uninstalled UmbracoForms and it seems to have resolved (fingers crossed) for now.
