    Making a search function

    Hi Our! :)

I'm currently researching how i can make an search page/search function with Umbraco.

Before i have used Google Site Search but now that Google is closing down for the paid service of Site Search i'm looking at something new.

Until now i have seen the following options,

    • Use an plugin, Full Text Search or ezSearch
    • Make an search function myself

Right now i really like Full Text Search, because it looks like it has all of the functions i'm looking for :)

We have built our sites with the Grid and LeBlender.

I have sites on Umbraco 7.3.0 and up, one on Cloud and the rest on our own Server.

Which option would you recommend me to take? :)

Hi Anders I wrote a post on how to search by document type and property in Umbraco.

    http://www.codeshare.co.uk/blog/how-to-search-by-document-type-and-property-in-umbraco/

    I hope it helps.

    Kind regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul :)

    Thanks for your post! :)

We built our sites with the grid and the LeBlender plugin but as i can read, yours will search through properties and not the grid? :)

Hi Anders It can look in the contents of the grid as it is just stored as a JSON object anyway.

As an alternative I've released https://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/w3s-google-custom-search/ a couple of weeks ago. Under the hood it makes us of the free Google REST API and therefore is free of advertisements. Since the package is kinda new any feedback is of course highly appreciated.
