Desired moderator administration features
- All actions should be done inline rather than needing to log into to a special admin page (ala, YAF)
- Delete individual post and entire topic (mark as SPAM)
- If an individual post is removed it should show a reason why deleted, unless it was SPAM which is deleted
- Move post or topic to another section
- Block IPs
- Suspend user
- Edit content of any post
- Click to send email to request user to change their signature (if no answer in X days, another email to Mods to manually edit the user's signature)
- All emails should have the links built-in to perform whatever action is needed without having to log in to some admin page first
How to encourage community involvement in forum
- Set a threshold of points at which posts, topics, and even users are hidden or even auto-deleted
- Create feeds by category so it's easy to monitor sections of interest
- Create an 'active' view
- use database for last login rather than cookies
- allow specifying how many days/weeks to view (ala, YAF)
- allow way to show/hide forum sections to only show those of interest to the users
Who gets to be a Moderator?
- Semi-automated solution
- At some level of general karma, and with some amount of forum-specific karma, and the person tends to any of his project forums, and all within recent activity ...
- Email to existing Mods to suggest potential new Moderator
- Any existing Moderator can approve suggestion of new Moderator
- Which automatically sends email to user to ask if they'd like to be a Moderator
- If the users accepts Moderator responsibility then user is given Moderator status when clicking link in the email
- Confirmation email sent to all Moderators to announce new Moderator
Feature Requests
- Ability to edit one's own posts
- Signatures... only available when you have certain karma points, to limit spam-ish stuff and reward those who spend time being involved
- Syntax highlighting for code
- Marking solutions, partial solutions, and even multiple solutions
- there is more than one way to do most things in umbraco
- votes will indicate which of multiple viable solutions is probably the best approach
- Provide an overview page for logged-in users
- List of all their posts
- List of questions that now have responses
- List of questions that are old with no responses (suggest they add more detail)
- List of questions that don't have a solution marked yet
- A way to mark a topic as not solved, but stop nagging me unless/until a new response is added
- Search within own posts/topics only
- Solved posts highly voted should go into an FAQ (or at least show them in the search as higher-ranked results)
- Within a topic you want 2 views... by date or by votes/solution (this setting should be used as user's default until changed)
