    Combining multiple products to one product in shopping basket

    uCommerce Support

    Hi There,

    I was wondering how I could combine multiple products to one product i.e. configure a product like a Computer or sandwich and put this into the basket as one product.

    For example:

    The user selects a computer, then selects a processor, then selects the drive capacity and puts this combination in to the basket. In the basket it should be showed as one product with one price.

    Then the user should be able to configure another computer and put this n the basket as well as one product with one price.

    So the basked should show:

    1 x PC 2Ghz, Hard drive 2Tb                       € 500,-

    1 x PC 2.4Ghz, Hard drive 3Tb        € 600,-

    And not:

    1 x PC 2Ghz                    € 400,-

    1 x PC 2.4Ghz                 € 450,-

    1 x Hard drive 2Tb                       € 100,-

    1 x Hard drive 3Tb                       € 150,-

    A solution could be to configure al possible variants but this is a hell of a job. Hence my question about ‘configuring’ products or rather combining products to one products.

    Hi René,

    I had a long forum post all ready to go, but decided to elevate it into an actual article instead.

    Please find my answer in 4 Steps to Building an Apple-style Product Configurator with uCommerce.

    There will be a follow-up with information on handling the basket. In the meantime I can tell you that it basically involves adding a references to a parent line item when items are added to the basket and presenting items with a link to a parent together.
