Crop setting 'Image Cropper Property Alias' in DAMP

    Hi,

I'm starting to get the hang of it using crop functionality in Digibiz Advanced  Media Picker (DAMP). However, there are still some concepts that are a bit unclear to me, like crop settings:

    Image Cropper Property Alias

    and

Image Cropper Crop Name (see screenshot):

I'm a bit puzzled about these settings and what to use where. And how do thes crop settings op the DAMP datatype relate to the crop settings ('property alias' 'crop name') of the Image Cropper datatype in Umbraco (see screenshot below):

    Thanks for the information,

    Anthony

In order for this to work you need to have a property on your media type that uses the Image Cropper datatype. It is this property that you enter into the DAMP configuration under "Image Cropper Property Alias". You then enter the name of the crop in your Image Cropper datatype that you would like DAMP to use when it displays the selected images.

I found the best way to learn about using DAMP is to create yourself a barebones installation of Umbraco and then install the DAMP Samples package. Also useful if you want to use Razor is to look at the Cultiv Razor Examples package.

    Hi Simon,

Thanks a lot for your explanation. It's starting to get a bit clearer now. Just one question, to what is the 'Property alias' setting in the Image Cropper datatype refering to?

    greetings,

    Anthony

    Hi Anthony,

The property alias refers to the property on the media type that will store the path to the image file that the cropper should use. If you are using the OOTB Image mediatype then umbracoFile is the property you want but you may have a custom media type with a different property and so the Image Cropper allows for this flexibility. Personally I usually stick to the standard umbracoFile property for consistency.

I've created a new page on the wiki to provide more detail on the Datatype in case it helps:

    http://our.umbraco.org/wiki/reference/default-datatypes/image-cropper

    Hi Simon,

Thanks a lot for the wiki-page. This is very helpfull and will also help a lot of other developers using the Image Cropper datatype.

Also good idea to give some historical background on the datatype, it put things more in perspective.

    you rock!

    Anthony
