    Enable "User invite" function in 7.13.1

    Using Umbraco And Getting Started
    Umbraco 7

    Hi

    I've just installed 7.13.1 and would like to invite a user to the site, but the button is missing - there is only 'Create user'. How do I enable 'Invite user'?

    Hi Bo,

    Interesting spot. Have you configured SMTP mail server connection details on your site? If not, that might be the reason why. Umbraco doesn't contain an SMTP mail server so it's probably checking in there for connection details and disabling the invite mechanism as it can't send e-mails without it (hence it can't send the invite).

    Embarrassing. I checked the SMTP settings beforehand, but didn't notice that the setting was actually commented out

    A couple of points (7.13.2):

    • If the "smtp from" email is [email protected] in the web.config, then this disables the Invite User function as well.
    • The notifications email in umbracoSettings.config appears to be ignored
    • The SMTP and Notofications health checks in the back end will report everything to be OK despite this being disabled
